Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) is a new procedure used to treat fibroid tumors of the uterus. Boston Scientific's Contour SE Microspheres are injected through a catheter that has been placed in the uterine artery. These microspheres block the arterial branches that supply blood to the fibroid. The result: fibroid tissue dies, the mass shrinks, and in most cases symptoms are relieved. This animation was developed for the oncology division of Boston Scientific.
